Asher the Barn Owl | Out on the Hunt
For those who are connected with me on social media, you might be aware of my ongoing project involving Barn Owls. This year, I have been utilizing remote cameras installed on the box, which was set up back in February.
During the month of May, a pair of Barn Owls, affectionately named Asher and Willow, took up residence in the box and successfully engaged in mating. Currently, the exciting chapter of their journey involves the hatching of their eggs. Willow diligently tends to their young ones, while Asher dedicates most of his time to hunting for food and bringing it back to the box.
In the provided short clip, you can witness Asher skill-fully hunting in the nearby fields, accompanied by...

    thx for good video. May I ask you why you have second cover on your lens and camera? Is the first layer not water proof?

    • @SimonWantling
      @SimonWantling 3 дня назад

      Thanks for the comments. The first layer is just a neoprene cover by lens coat to protect the lens from knocks and bumps, the second layer I used was a proper water proof cover which goes on when it's raining. Thanks

    Isn't there a risk of the laser hitting the eye of the owl when it's flying and damaging it? I want to try using the Nikon Z8 in auto capture mode where it detects subjects and shoots automatically (and silently).

    In 2015 I purchased the LensCoat Raincoat Standard . Basically I used it a couple times a year and kept it clean and in a safe with my other gear. Last week my family had our annual beach week and I always covered my D810 -300mm VR to keep wind and salt air off. The tapes and the adhesive on the inside of the cover have completely dried up and crumbled. I spent an hour drying to get all of that crap out of every nook and cranny of my 810 and lens. This thing worked well but now it is a useless piece of crap. This is not a long lasting product. They claim it is made in the USA and if it is they should be ashamed

      @@SimonWantling I think your page is excellent Simon and I mentioned it to some of my photography friends in the pub last night. I liked that when I’d read that days report, the date of the next report was at the bottom which was handy but what would be useful is if you could click on that date so it takes you straight to the next days report. Not sure if this is possible as I know absolutely nothing about building websites. Keep up the Greta work Simon.

    All I can say is WOW ! Your photography is simply fantastic.I have always just adored owls. We reside on the western coast of Norway. A few days ago we heard this bump bump bump in our chimney flue. We continued hearing it for days. First it was in the upstairs and a couple of days later we heard it in our living room. This time we heard a bird sound. My husband took a thick padded glove and the next day went down to the basement and was able to open the flue down there. He said it was just amazing that he could remove the owl from the flue. I heard my husband stream out for me to come to the window. He managed to get a photo of this beautiful owl. The poor thing had been without food or water for days. He stayed with the owl and helped it until it was able to fly off into the woods behind our house. I pray that it survived. The owl didn't appear to have any damage to its wings or any other problems.
